Good question, the word “ramen” can refer to the noodles by itself, but the completed dish with the soup as a whole is still called ramen. When speaking about ramen in general, it is usually the dish as a whole that is the subject. With this in mind, the most accurate description for ramen in our opinion is that it is both the noodles and soup together, a noodle soup.
